The Memorial Candle Program has been designed to help offset the costs associated with the hosting this Tribute Website in perpetuity. Through the lighting of a memorial candle, your thoughtful gesture will be recorded in the Book of Memories and the proceeds will go directly towards helping ensure that the family and friends of Laverne Young can continue to memorialize, re-visit, interact with each other and enhance this tribute for future generations.

Obituary for Laverne Young

Laverne Hawes Young died peacefully 25 FEB 2012 in her home at Holly Lake Ranch, Texas. Laverne was born 13 FEB 1927 in Seadrift, TX, one of three children to Albert and Avis Hawes. Laverne is survived by her daughter, Lisa L. Young, Austin TX, her son, Hugh P. Young and his wife Keri Young, Norman OK and her sister-in-law, Nancy Young, Houston TX. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lysle M. Young, and her two siblings, June and Ray. Laverne will be remembered as an adventurous soul who lived abroad much of her life, making many, many friends along the way whom she referred to as "my chosen family." She enjoyed many types of community involvement though the years, from Cub Scout Den Mother while living in Tripoli Libya, to serving as President of the Holly Lake Women's Guild. Laverne enjoyed playing golf in the "Hit & Giggle" league at Holly Lake Ranch, gardening, bridge and was an avid reader. Her interest in different peoples and cultures, her robust and distinctive laughter, and her extraordinary ability as a storyteller will be remembered by all who knew her. Laverne's Memorial Service will be held Saturday, March 3 at 1PM at Holly Tree Chapel, Holly Lake Ranch, TX. The family expresses great thanks to Hospice of East Texas, and asks that in lieu of flowers, donations are sent to this Hospice organization or another non-profit Hospice group.
