Obituary for Neilan Steele
Neilan passed away on August 21, 2017. He was born to J. T. “Tommy” and Opal Fay (Fowler) Steele on August 24, 1940 in Chatfield. Neilan attended Avalon High School and was a member of both the Eagle Basketball and Baseball teams, and graduated in 1959. After graduation he enrolled at Navarro College in Corsicana for two years then transferred to Stephen F. Austin University in Nacogdoches where he received a BBS and Masters Degree. His first two years in teaching and coaching were spent in Freer, Texas from August 1965 to August 1968. Neilan coached from 1968 to 1970 in Nacogdoches followed by a move to Longview, he retired from Pine Tree ISD after 25 years of service. He had numerous positions with Pine Tree which included assistant football coach, Assistant Junior High Principal, Assistant Superintendent, Athletic Director and retired from the distract as Director of Transportation. after 25 years of service. He moved to Winnsboro Texas to enjoy fishing more frequently and rasing his cows. Not one to be idle for long, after moving to Winnsboro he owned and operated a trucking business for several years.
He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers Charles and Joe Steele and niece Shannon Worthy. Neilan is survived by his son Charles Marcus Steele of Longview, Jennifer Steele Birnbaum of Overland Park, Kansas, granddaughters Lainey Paige Birnbaum & Taylor Rose Birnbaum, Morgan Savannah Steele, great grand-son Grayson Jordan, brother James Earl Steele, sisters Geraldine Callaway and Tommie Worthy, nephews David Steele, Greg Steele, Curtis Callaway and Rusty Steele, nieces Sharon worthy Goss, Susan Worthy, Janna Steele Minton and numerous great nephews and nieces and cousins.
The Steele family would like to invite you to fellowship with them from 11:00am to 1:00 p.m. Saturday August 26th at the Beaty Funeral Home, 816 w Broadway St, Winnsboro, Texas. The family welcomes you to celebrate his life as we share memories and a luncheon.
