Obituary for Ivan Davenport Jr.

Ivan  Davenport Jr.
Ivan Shelby Davenport, Jr. passed away on November 21, 2017 in McKinney, Texas. He was born on October 4, 1928, in Tyler, TX to Ivan Shelby Sr. and Lois Hamilton Davenport. Mr. Davenport graduated from John Tyler at age 15. He then started delivering groceries for Brookshires. At age 17, he convinced his mother to sign papers to enter the Merchant Marines where he got to travel the world. He returned back to Tyler at age 21 and went to work for Southwestern Bell. Mr. Davenport married Barbara Louise Moore on January 21, 1950. After retiring from At&T after 38 years of service, he and his wife built their home on Lake Palestine which was his favorite fishing spot. Mr. Davenport was a 50+ year member of the Richardson Masonic Lodge #1214 where he was Worshipful Master Mason from 1966 - 1967.
He is preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Martha Lois Davenport Hancock.
He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Barbara Louise Davenport; three children, Barbara Sue Davenport Storace of Plano, TX, Robert Paul Davenport of Richardson, TX and Laura Jill Davenport Stewart of Aubrey, TX , six grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren and sister, Sara Hightower.
Graveside service is scheduled for 2:00 pm on Saturday, November 25, 2017 at Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Mineola officiated by Rev. Charles Long.
In lieu of flowers family has requested donations to made to Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children, 2222 Welborn St, Dallas, TX 75219.
