By divine decree from our Loving Creator and Savior, Richard Joel Ellington was born on February 20, 1957, to Bob and
Donna Ellington in Paris, Arkansas. Then on January 31, 2025, Rick at age 67 passed into the presence of King Jesus and eternal life. Rick’s family moved to Texas during his elementary school years. About this same time Rick saw himself a sinner before a Holy God, repented, trusting God’s son Jesus’ perfect provision for his soul. See II Peter 3:9.
Rick graduated from South Garland High School in 1975. He attended West Point for two years. After the Holy Spirit’s leading, he left with an honorable discharge and then received his B.S. in Mathematics from North Texas University. In 1978, he met his wife Rebekah and they married in 1980. He held several jobs as a public and private schoolteacher. He worked almost 30 years at Texas Instruments in Dallas County. Rick was a dedicated and loving servant of our Lord Jesus his whole adult life. He was a much studied Bible student and served in 3 local churches wherever he was needed. He received his Master of Arts degree in Church Ministry from Mission University (Baptist Bible College) in 2009. His highest honor was serving His Lord Jesus as pastor of Hubbard Chapel Baptist Church in Quitman, Texas for the past almost 12 years.
Left to cherish Rick's memory are his wife Becky of 44 years, their daughter Rachel Bromley and son-in-law Carl, father-in-law Doyle Walker, brother Ron Ellington and wife Ruth, brother-in-law Steve Walker and wife Melody, uncle Jerry Barnard, step-brothers Gary Dorrough, Steve Dorrough, Don Stockton, step-sister Lisa Stockton, nieces, nephews, and cousins plus other relatives. He is preceded in death by his parents and step-parents.
Rick loved playing the guitar and loved to encourage everyone to use their gifts for the Lord. Our Creator created Rick to be service minded and a natural born teacher. He was also gifted with the resourcefulness and diligence to fix most anything. Rick was a very Christ-reflective man: faithful, loving, joyful, a cheerful giver, self-sacrificing and an excellent provider. He left this life loving our precious Lord Jesus Christ, his sweet wife, his dear daughter and son-in-law, extended family and his local church family Hubbard Chapel Baptist plus many others. Rick will truly be missed until we meet again. Praise God for His work through this remarkable man.
