Alan Eric Sparkman, known affectionately as "Sparx" by his bandmates, passed away on March 13, 2025, at the age of 66. Born on February 9, 1959, in Tyler, Texas, Alan grew up in Winnsboro, Texas, where he developed a passion for music and a strong work ethic.
Alan attended Tyler Junior College and East Texas State University before embarking on a career as an Air Conditioning and Heating Specialist. Beyond his profession, he was a talented musician who found joy in playing and sharing music with those around him. His love for music earned him lifelong friendships and cherished memories.
A man of many experiences, Alan spent time working alongside his father in the oilfields during his early years and even took on the unique role of a personal driver in New York City. His adventures and stories were as rich as his laughter, leaving an impression on all who knew him.
Alan was a man of faith, identifying as a Baptist. He held deep love and respect for his family, especially his mother, Lila Gillis Sparkman, who survives him. He is also survived by his sisters, Claudia Ann Fitzgerald and Vivian Toland and her husband, Michael; two nieces, Deidra and Rachel; three nephews, Dudley, David, and Matthew; and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Alton Claude Sparkman, who passed in 2024.
Alan's warmth, talent, and humor will be missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His music and memories will continue to resonate in the hearts of those who loved him.
