Alfred Mathew Parr
Mr. Alfred Mathew Parr of Scroggins passed away peacefully on January 17, 2026 at the age of 87. He was born in the Blodgett community in Titus County on January 10, 1939 to the late James A. Parr and Jennie L. Simpson Parr.
Mathew served in the U.S. Army, including a tour of duty in South Korea during the Cold War. He will be remembered by most folks for the many years he was the Dr. Pepper salesman for the surrounding area.
Mathew ultimately retired from the Coca-Cola Bottling Company. He was a member of New Hope Baptist Church in Scroggins. Mathew would spend his free time fishing, hunting, and going to garage sales. He also enjoyed playing Santa for the neighborhood children.
Mr. Parr was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Mozella Parr; his sons, Shannon Parr and Jimmie Parr.
Mathew is survived by his daughter Becky Anderson and husband Keith of Scroggins; son, Bruce Parr of Scroggins; brother Alvin Parr and wife Joyce of New Boston; sister Amelia Benson and husband Buster of Winnsboro; granddaughters Robin Anderson and husband Rowan Lehr of Garland, Callan Gearner and husband Ryan of College Station; and great-grandson Nathanael David Gearner. He is also survived by numerous in-laws, nieces and nephews, and a host of friends and extended family members.
