Rev. Alton Patton went to be with the Lord on Saturday, January 31, 2009 at his home in Winnsboro, Texas. Bro. Patton was born on March 31, 1918 to the late S.D. Patton and Ethel Vermillion Patton. Bro. Patton married the former Johnetta Sybert on April 30, 1941 and she preceded him in death on January 23, 1995. Bro. Patton received his B.A. from Baylor University and his Th. M. from Southwestern Seminary. He served as a Student Pastorate for Bright Star, Addman, Liberty, Shady Grove, Hainesville, Golden, Reilly Springs and Southwest Tell. He served as pastor at First Baptist Church in Linden, Winnsboro, Lampasses, and Uvalde. He was Association Missionary in Tillman County, OK and for the Harmony-Pittsburg Association. Bro. Patton served as interim pastor for several churches, most recently at Rock Hill Baptist Church. While Association Missionary in Smith County, he established the Chair of Bible at Tyler Junior College. He was a Trustee of the Mexican Baptist Bible Institute in San Antonio, served two terms on the Executive Board of the B.G.C.T. and one term as a Trustee of the Texas Baptist Children's Home in San Antonio. Survivors include daughters, Joanna Meinecke of Houston and Jane Rummel and husband Alvis of Uvalde; son, Sammy Don Patton of Montague; brothers, Aaron Patton of Gilmer and Howard Patton of Ft. Worth; sisters, Harvine Plaxco of Kilgore, Vera Dale Connally of Elm Mott and Doris Seago of Tacoma, WA.; grandchildren, Misty Kay Viau, Bobby Don Patton, Julie Rape, John Rummel and eight great grandchildren.
