Claude Sparkman

June 7, 1930 — April 26, 2024

Alton Claude Sparkman, a beloved member of the Winnsboro community and a cherished husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and great-great-grandfather, passed away peacefully on April 26, 2024, at the age of 93.

Claude was born on June 7, 1930, in Winnsboro, Texas, to proud parents Ira Alton Sparkman and Nettie Lou Sparkman. Growing up in the heart of Winnsboro, he attended Winnsboro High School, where he laid the foundation for a life filled with hard work, dedication, and kindness.

Claude's career in the oil fields was not just a job but a testament to his strong work ethic and commitment to providing for his family. He rose through the ranks to become an esteemed Oil Field Manager, leaving a lasting impact on the industry and earning the respect of colleagues and friends alike.

Beyond his professional endeavors, Claude was deeply involved in his community. As a member of the Odd Fellows Lodge of Winnsboro, he exemplified the values of fraternity and service. His faith was also a guiding force in his life, as he was an active member of the First United Methodist Church of Winnsboro, where his presence and contributions were cherished by all.

In his leisure time, Claude found joy in simple pleasures. He had a passion for music that was only matched by his love for traveling to Branson, where he indulged in the vibrant entertainment scene. Closer to home, he took great pride in tending to his farm and animals, finding solace and fulfillment in the rhythm of rural life.

Above all, Claude's greatest joy came from spending time with his family and friends. Whether it was sharing stories over a meal or creating memories with his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren, he cherished every moment spent in their company.

On July 26, 1947, Claude embarked on a lifelong journey of love and partnership when he married the love of his life, Lila Gillis Sparkman. Together, they shared over seven decades of unwavering devotion, building a legacy of love and unity that will endure for generations to come.

Alton is survived by his devoted wife, Lila Sparkman, his loving children, Alan Sparkman, Ann Fitzgerald, Vivian (Michael) Toland, his dear brother, Derward Sparkman, and his sisters, Neta Neystel and Gaile Lanier. He also leaves behind a legacy of love in his five grandchildren Dudley Fitzgerald, Deidra Hernandez, David Toland, Matthew Toland, and Rachel Toland Yielding, also five great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren.

Though Claude may have departed this world, his memory will continue to live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him. He will be remembered for his kindness, his integrity, and the profound impact he had on the lives of those around him.

Alton Claude Sparkman will be dearly missed but never forgotten. May he rest in eternal peace, surrounded by the love of those who cherished him most.
