Eugene Patterson

March 23, 1947 — June 26, 2025

Alvin Eugene Patterson, a resident of Yantis, Texas, passed away peacefully at his home on June 26, 2025, at the age of 78. He was born in Winnsboro on March 23, 1947, to the late Alvin Alvoy Patterson and Annie Louise Hallman Patterson.

Eugene graduated from H. Grady Spruce High School in Dallas in 1965. He honorably served his country as a reservist in the U.S. Navy. On November 18, 1966, he married the love of his life, Linda Nell Harris Patterson, and together they raised two children, Royce and Lisa. Eugene was a dedicated and talented self-employed home builder, providing steadfastly for his family.

A man of faith, Eugene was a Baptist. He had a deep love for the outdoors, being an avid hunter and fisherman. He particularly enjoyed quail hunting and even trained bird and squirrel dogs. However, his true passion was fishing. Beyond his outdoor pursuits, he loved to settle in with a good book and enjoyed all aspects of nature.

For those of you who really knew him, you know we have lost a great storyteller. He could make catching the lid of a barrel as entertaining as if he were catching a Marlin. Or even talk his way out of a tight corner, like the time he was hunting with his good friend, where in the distance the game warden was waiting. Making his way in that direction, and knowing that he and his friend could be over their limit, Eugene was letting loose his birds to the ground out of the bottom of his hunting bag. Unbeknownst to him, his dog had been collecting the birds as they dropped, and as they were talking to the game warden, came walking up with a mouthful of quail. The game warden said, “that’s quite a retrieving dog you’ve got there”, and let them go with a warning.

Eugene was preceded in death by his parents, Alvin Patterson and Louise Patterson Clarke.

He is survived by his loving wife, Linda; his son, Royce Patterson and wife Stacy of Quitman, Texas; his daughter, Lisa Patterson and husband Erik Snoek of Almere, the Netherlands; his brothers, Billy Patterson and wife Jimmie of Winnsboro, Texas, and Ricky Patterson and his wife Bridget; his sister, Brenda Richey of Powder Springs, Georgia; his grandchildren, Hunter Patterson and wife Kasey of Portsmouth, Virginia, and Hannah Patterson of Mineola, Texas, and his great-grandchild, Jackson Reed Patterson, also of Portsmouth, Virginia.

Eugene's dedication to his family, his strong faith, and his passion for the outdoors will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

A memorial/celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers donations can be made in his honor to Cypress Basin Hospice, 207 Morgan Street, Mount Pleasant, TX 75455.
