Ambrose Ruel Blackmon

Ambrose Ruel "Sam" Blackmon, age 96, died Sunday, December 16, 2012 in Quitman, Texas. He was born on Tuesday, February 22, 1916 in Golden, Texas to the late Bethel Strawn and Eva Clark Blackmon. He was a Farmer/Rancher and a founding member of Sand Springs Baptist Church in Mineola, Texas. As a member of Sand Springs Baptist Church, he had served as a Song Director, Deacon and Treasurer.

He is preceded in death by a son, Ambrose Ray Blackmon; four sisters; and two brothers.

He is survived by a son, Benny Blackmon and wife Gail of Quitman; a daughter, Joyce Blackmon of Yantis, Texas; two grandchildren, Angela Pannell and Tammy Ellis; three great-grandchildren, Justin Jackson, Haley Jackson and Megan Hawkes; and one great great-grandchild, Madilynn Jackson.

Visitation for Mr. Blackmon will be held on Tuesday, December 18, 2012 at Beaty Funeral Home in Mineola from 6 - 8 PM.

Funeral services will be held at Sand Springs Baptist Church on Wednesday, December 19, 2012 at 11:00 AM with Rev. Jim Parker officiating.

Interment will follow the funeral service at Sand Springs Cemetery.
