Archie Lee Burnett

October 25, 1943 — April 5, 2022

Archie Lee Burnett was born October 25, 1943 to Grover Burnett and Emily Alice Rushin Burnett in Sulphur Springs, Texas and was raised as a country boy with his two siblings working on tractors and vehicles. He graduated from Yantis High School in 1962 as valedictorian of his class. Archie then attended Federal Institute of Business in Tyler, where he graduated in 1963. He moved to Houston where he got a job working for Wanda Petroleum. In June of 1965, he moved back to the Sulphur Springs area, getting a job as a computer programmer for Rockwell International. He is responsible for putting payroll on computer for the first time for Rockwell. Archie also was President of the Rockwell Credit Union for several years. He later became a Purchasing Agent for Rockwell, where he stayed until he retired after 48 years with the company. In March of 1966, Archie married Francell Lawrence and began a 56-year journey. They lived in New Hope where they had their only son, Brett, in 1976 and lived there until 2002, when they moved to their current residence in Winnsboro. In 2011, Archie and Francell bought Clements Realtors in Winnsboro, where Archie was serving as Broker when he passed away. Archie was very involved in sports for much of his life. He won awards in golf, tennis and bowling, and refereed basketball for about 10 years. Archie also ran the Dallas White Rock marathon several times, including once with his sister, Patricia. He shared the love of sports with his son, Brett, coaching him in soccer and baseball. Archie could fix anything, loved working in his yard and loved helping anyone who had a need. He dearly loved his family and thoroughly enjoyed playing with his two grandchildren. Archie accepted Christ as a teenager and had recently renewed his faith. Our Lord called Archie home April 5, after a 5-year battle with Interstitial Lung Disease, with his close family by his side. He is survived by his wife, Francell; son, Brett Burnett and wife, Lori, of Winnsboro; grandchildren, Zane Burnett and Jillian Burnett, of Winnsboro; sister Patricia Thompson and husband, Bill, of Winnsboro; sister-in-law, Glenda Burnett, of Sulphur Springs; nephews Barry Waters, Michael Burnett, and Chris Burnett; and niece Pam Adams.
