Barbara Jean Berkley

Barbara Jean Berkley, 82, of Winnsboro, Texas, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family on January 4, 2025. She was born on July 9, 1942, in Winnsboro to Edward Lee Ellison and Juanita Ella Barrow Ellison.

Barbara dedicated her life to her family and her community. She was a longtime food service worker and retired from Memorial Middle School in Winnsboro, where her kind spirit and warm smile touched countless lives. Outside of her career, Barbara found great joy in gardening, nurturing both plants and the relationships that surrounded her, and thoroughly loved decorating for Christmas and bringing the Christmas spirit to her children and grandchildren.

Barbara was married to the love of her life, Kenneth Wayne Berkley, with whom she shared over thirty cherished years.

She is survived by her daughters, Connie Cagle of Scroggins and Michelle Whitehurst and husband Dennis of Winnsboro; seventeen grandchildren; and thirty one great-grandchildren.

Barbara was preceded in death by her son, Cody Cagle; daughters, Janet Cagle, Melinda Hackett, and Kay Chaney; her brothers, James, Thomas, and Benjamin Ellison; sisters, Betty Cooper and Linda Heady; and her beloved granddaughter, Preslee Tabor.

Barbara’s legacy of love, kindness, and strength will live on in the hearts of her family and friends.
