Barbara Carol Prather

Mrs. Barbara Carol Prather, age 74 of Mineola, passed away, with her husband and two children at her side, on Saturday, November 28, 2020 in Mineola. She was born on January 2, 1946 in Graham, Texas to the late Morris Guinn and Bessie Copland Guinn. Barbara was a retired Physician Assistant and member of First Christian Church of Mineola. She was a member of the American Academy of Physician Assistants, the Texas Academy of Physician Assistants, founder of Grace Community Health Care and founder of Women's Peace Luncheon. She was published in the Canadian Journal of Neurological Sciences, in Neurology, and in the Annals of Neurology. She worked tirelessly between 2004 and 2006 walking the fence line at the city cemetery between white and black praying for its removal and rejoiced in the answering of that prayer earlier this year. She was preceded in death by parents and brother, Jerry Guinn. Barbara is survived by her husband, Will Prather of Mineola; son, Michael Prather and wife Merry of McKinney; daughter, Stacy Whitson and husband Mark of Allen; sisters, Joan Kopal of Murfreesboro, Arkansas and Gloria Alewine and husband Murry of Pittsburg; brother-in-law, Virgil Prather and wife Debbie of Duncanville; sisters-in-law, Virginia Holdman and husband Jerry of Rushville, Indiana and Janice Pugh of Arkansas City, Kansas; grandchildren, McKenna and Mason Prather and Ben and Abby Whitson along with numerous nieces and nephews. Due to Pandemic concerns a private family service will be held. In lieu of flower the family request donations to Hospice of East Texas, 4111 University Blvd. Tyler TX 75701.
