Betty Jean McBee Knox, age 90, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, April 3, 2026. Betty was born in Pittsburg, TX on August 10, 1935 to C.E. McBee and Lillian Russell McBee. She lived in Omaha, TX until she was in 5th grade. Betty then moved to Tyler, TX with her family and attended Tyler schools.
Betty met the love of her life, James "Jim" Montgomery Knox, as a teenager in Tyler. They started dating, fell in love, and married on May 16, 1953. She and Jim traveled for Jim's work until their children started school. At that time, they settled in Albuquerque, NM, and lived there for 9 years with their 3 children, Roy, Herb, and Kim.
Betty and Jim moved to Tyler, TX for 2 years and then lived in Marshall, TX for 4 years while their children were in High School. After the children completed High School, Betty and Jim made their home on Lake Holbrook in Golden, TX close to Mineola for 33 years. Betty moved back to Marshall in 2007 to be close to family.
Betty worked different jobs after her children were in school, but the joy of her life was her home and family. She loved being a homemaker, and she loved her family, her friends, and her church. Betty, known by most as Nannie or Nannie Knox, was a wonderful homemaker and an amazing cook. She was especially gifted at making delicious desserts - and always made everyone's favorite. That was Nannie's way of showing you she loved you very much.
Betty was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church in Marshall, TX. She cherished her church family and her friends in her Sunday School Class. Betty faithfully served and attended the activities and events at IBC. She worked in Vacation Bible School and always enjoyed making the snacks fun for the kids. She was active in her Sunday School Class and attended the parties and participated in the activities. She has enjoyed her close friends and her card group from her Sunday School Class. She enjoyed gathering each week to play cards, eat out, shop, or just to fellowship with her dear friends.
Betty was preceded in death by her beloved husband- Jim "Papaw"' Knox; her dear son, Roy Knox; her son-in-law, Neil Kennemer; and her granddaughter, Tiffani Knox. She was also preceded in death by her parents, C.E. and Lillian McBee; and her two brothers, Charles McBee and Robert McBee.
