Funeral services for Betty Lou McCreary Lindley, 88, will be at 2 PM, Thursday, June 18, 2015, at Beaty Funeral Home, with Rev. Michael Mize officiating. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be on Wednesday, June 17, 2015 from 6-8 PM at Beaty Funeral Home in Mineola.
Betty met her Heavenly Father on June 14, 2015. She was born on January 3, 1927 in Longview, TX to the late Robert James and Thelma (Ball) McCreary. Her family moved to Mineola in 1929 when her father was the first T&P engineer to stop in the new home terminal of Mineola.
She started tap dancing when she was 13. She performed for the Lions Club in Longview and the soldiers at Camp Fannin in Tyler. She taught square dancing to sixth and seventh graders. She was a cheerleader for three years at Mineola High School where she graduated in 1945.
She continued to play bridge after being taught in her twenties by her aunt, Vera Malone. She loved to bowl and taught others.
She worked at Flynt’s Jewelry Store, Melon Lanes Bowling Alley, Clear Lakes Restaurant, Mineola Machine Shop and Mack’s Split Rail BBQ.
She married Mack Lindley on June 30, 1970. They were married until Mack’s death on January 23, 2004. She is predeceased by her husband, her parents, her brother Bobby McCreary, an infant sister Judy, and her nephew Corley McCreary.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Trish and Jim Smith of Lakeway; her son and daughter-in-law Ricky and Julie Reed of White Oak; her son Randy Reed of Mineola; daughter and son-in-law Tracey and Shane Creech of Mineola; sister-in-law, Dorothy McCreary.
She is also survived by ten grandchildren; thirteen great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; two nephews and many cousins.
Pallbearers will be Austin Burns, Jim Phillips, Paul Ray, Clifford Moss, Terry Allen, Ryan Bell and Chris Chaffin.
Her caregivers were Cassie Davis, Tracey McDow Miles of At Home Healthcare, Amye Cox, the staff at Hospice of East Texas and Nurse Christy Baker; and granddaughter Jamie Reed.
