Betty Ruth Mabry, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister and friend, passed away peacefully on March 27, 2026, in Winnsboro, Texas, at the age of 80. She was born Betty Ruth Coston on September 8, 1945, in Winnsboro. Betty, also known as "Gran", was a ray of light to everyone who had the privilege of knowing her.
Betty was a proud graduate of W. W. Samuel High School in Dallas. She met her love, Edward Mabry, one summer while visiting her grandparents, and they were married on October 13, 1963. They shared a lifetime of cherished memories and unwavering love and support for one another.
Her professional journey here in Winnsboro started out in the meat market at Brookshires during the 70s and 80s. She then transitioned to retail, working at the Band Box where she cultivated her love for fashion. Both jobs were done while also balancing her responsibilities as a mother to her two sons and helping Edward on the farm. After spending some time at home, she then began working at Yantis ISD, where she spent several years. Later in life, she was able to retire from Winnsboro ISD where she was "everyone's favorite" substitute teacher. She loved being a substitute in Winnsboro because it allowed her to stay close to home and be with her beloved granddaughters while they were in school. She greatly enjoyed socializing with the teachers and students, making many lasting friendships throughout the years.
Faith was the foundation of Betty's life. She loyally served her church as a Sunday school teacher and Treasurer for many years. Her steadfast faith guided her actions and inspired those who knew her.
Betty cherished time spent with her family, especially her granddaughters. She loved to play board games with them and found great pleasure in watching them play basketball as they grew older. She shared a close and cherished bond with her sister, Nancy, as well. Her kindness also extended to her many Mabry in-laws, nephews, nieces, and members of the Coston and McKethan families. She was a loving mother to her two sons, Matt and Tim Mabry; a supportive mother-in-law to Stacie Mabry; a doting grandmother to Danie Truett (and husband Ty) and Darcie Mabry; and a proud great-grandmother to Avery and Lincoln. Her legacy will continue through them. Betty is also survived by her sister Nancy McKethan and brother Bobby Coston, along with sisters- and brothers-in-law on the Mabry side.
She was preceded in death, by just three months, by her husband of 63 cherished years, Edward Mabry; her parents, Hollis and Jimmie Coston; her brother Tommy Coston; and numerous sisters- and brothers-in-law. While each of their losses was deeply felt during Betty's lifetime, there is comfort in knowing she is now reunited with them all.
Betty's legacy is one of love, faith, and service. She will be remembered for the deep affection she held for her family and friends and for the countless lives she touched through her kindness and devotion.
As we say goodbye, we find comfort in the many treasured memories we have of her. May Betty Ruth Mabry rest peacefully in the arms of the Lord she so faithfully served.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to the staff at Autumn Winds for the care and compassion they provided over the past several years.
