Mrs. Betty “Becky” Nieman Thurman Mecklin, age 88 of Winnsboro, passed away on Saturday, September 17th, 2016 in Tyler. She was born on July 21st, 1928 in Wilson, TX., to the late Edwin Nieman and Mary Todd Oliver Nieman. She retired as an operator from the Poka-Lambro Telephone Co. at the age of 65; she was formerly a member in the Edelweiss Club, The Aladdin Knights and the American Business Women’s Association, and a past recipient of the Woman of the Year Award in the ABWA. She and Jim joined the First United Methodist Church of Winnsboro upon retiring to Winnsboro. She was preceded in death by her parents; her 1st husband, Jarrell H. Thurman on May 29, 1969, her 2nd husband, Jim Mecklin on March 6, 2013. She is survived by her son, Jarrell Wayne Thurman and wife Jean of Winnsboro; step children, Jim Mecklin and wife Julia of Lubbock, Butch Herndon of Lubbock, Joe Mecklin and wife Patty of Dallas, Donna Mecklin of Wichita Falls; brothers, James Nieman and wife Ruth of Oklahoma City, OK., Bobby Nieman and wife Tommie of Irving; sister, Katherine Woodcock of Council Bluff, IA; eight grandchildren, and thirteen great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held on Monday, September 19th, 2016 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Beaty Funeral Home-Winnsboro. Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, September 20th, 2016 at Beaty Funeral Home-Winnsboro at 10:00 AM with Rev. Carolyn Allbritton, and Bro. Henry Suche conducting, interment will be at Tahoka Cemetery in Tahoka, Texas on Wednesday, September 21, 2016 at 11:00 AM. Honorary Pallbearers are Jason Thurman, Tobin Thurman, James D. Mecklin, Butch Herndon, Bobby Nieman, James Nieman. Memorials can be made in her memory to the First United Methodist Church of Winnsboro, or the Hospice of East Texas in Tyler.
