Rogers and Ethel Mae Woods Rogers. Mrs. Wehrle graduated from Baylor University in 1937. She then attended North Texas University and received her M.Ed. She also received her Counselor's Certificate from North Texas. She also did course work at McMurry College, Abilene Christian College and the University Of Texas in Austin. On November 18, 1939, Betty married Leonard J. "Larry" Wehrle in Galveston, Texas. They have been married for 68 years. It was obvious from hearing one of them talk about the other that they were truly in love and had been from the beginning. Mrs. Wehrle had taught in the Abilene and Dallas public schools. At the time of her retirement in 1981, she was serving as Evening Dean at El Centro College in Dallas. Even after her retirement, she did some substitute teaching at the college. She also taught some classes at the jail for the jailers and the inmates. From that experience she said, "I realized there were some people who had nobody to trust. It was an eye opener." "You know, you have to have somebody you trust to be a human being," she said. Mrs. Wehrle had been a member of the P.E.O. Sisterhood and the 20th Century Club. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Mineola where where she had taught the Progressive Sunday School Class and the Seekers Sunday School Class. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Wehrle was also preceded in death by a brother, Adrian Rogers. She is survived by her husband, Leonard J. Wehrle of Mineola; by two sons and one daughter-in-law, John O. & Susan Wehrle of Richmond, California and Paul L. Wehrle of Dallas; by one grandchild, Beck Wehrle of Richmond, California; by one nephew, Claude Ed Rogers of Bellevue, Washington; and by a niece, Judy Buckner of Laurel, Maryland.
