It is with profound sorrow and a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Billie Jean Bing, a cherished mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great, great grandmother, who left us peacefully on March 15, 2024, just one day after celebrating her 96th birthday. Born in Mineola, Texas, on March 14, 1928, to the late Eddie Anderson Cherry and the late Opal Wisenbaker Cherry, Billie lived a life full of love, adventure, and simple pleasures that touched the hearts of all who knew her.
Billie’s spirit was as vast as the Texas skies under which she was born. She had an undying love for the outdoors, finding joy in fishing, gardening, and riding 4-wheelers. Her adventurous spirit was equally matched by her love for a winning slot machine reflecting her fearless approach to life and it's many opportunities for joy.
Billie was the matriarch of a large and loving family, leaving behind a legacy through her daughter, Sandra Knackstedt and husband Larry of Wellington, Colorado; son, Louie Max Scott Jr. and wife Tandy of Mineola, Texas and daughter, Debra Freeman and husband Steve of Tyler, Texas. She was a proud grandmother to nine grandchildren, one step-granddaughter, twenty-three great-grandchildren, four step great grandchildren, and two great-great-granddaughters. Each one held a special place in her heart, and she cherished every moment spent with them.
Preceding her in death was her beloved first husband, Louie Max Scott, Sr., her second husband William Patrick, and her third husband Harold Bing, her brothers James Earl Cherry and Jerry Paul Cherry, and her sister Rena Mae Cordell. Billie was also preceded in death by her long time companion and dance partner, James Luce. Her passing marks the end of an era but her legacy encompasses five generations which will continue to grow.
Billie Jean Bing’s life was a testament to the power of love and the joy of living each day to its fullest. As we say our goodbyes, let us remember her not with sadness but with the joy and laughter she brought into our lives. Her spirit will forever live on in the stories we share and the memories we hold dear.
Billie Jean Bing’s light will never fade, as it shines brightly in the lives of those she loved. Rest in peace, dear Billie. You will be profoundly missed but never forgotten.
