Billie John Harpole

June 17, 1928 — August 30, 2024

Billie John Harpole, known to many as Bill, passed away peacefully on August 30, 2024, at the age of 96. Born on June 17, 1928, in Golden, Texas, Bill was the son of the late Oscar Milton Harpole and Lois Esther Bellomy Harpole. He grew up in Golden, where he graduated from Golden High School.

A proud veteran, Bill served in the US Navy enlisting during World War II, demonstrating his unwavering dedication to his country. Following his military service, Bill found a long and fulfilling career as a railroad conductor before retiring.

Bill was a devout member of the Golden Methodist Church, where his faith was a central part of his life. His commitment to his community was evident through his longtime service as a volunteer, president, and sexton of the Golden Cemetery. He also had a passion for farming and played a significant role in the Golden Sweet Potato Parade, serving as the Grand Marshal in 2023, an honor that recognized his early contributions as the original parade flag bearer.

On December 5, 1951, Bill married the love of his life, Dorothy Lawson Harpole. The couple shared 71 happy years together until Dorothy's passing on September 28, 2022. Bill was also preceded in death by his daughter, Kathy Ann Harpole Brummett.

Bill's legacy lives on through his children, son Johnny Harpole and his wife, Debra, of Golden; and daughter Julia Kay Harpole and her husband, Walter Fitzgerald, also of Golden. He is also survived by his cherished grandchildren, Britney Bon Harpole and Jeffrey Clayton Brummett and wife, Emily, and a great-grandchild, Theodore James Brummett.

Bill Harpole will be remembered for his service to his country, his dedication to his community, and his deep love for his family. His kind spirit and the many lives he touched will never be forgotten.
