Billy Joe Jones

January 23, 1932 — November 16, 2021

Bill J. Jones, of Winnsboro, Texas, rested from his labors on November 16, 2021, with his beloved wife Betty by his side. Mr. Jones was born in Winnsboro on January 23, 1932, to Berry Gardner and Georgia Bee (Martin) Jones. When Bill returned to Winnsboro, in 1981, he became a cattleman, like his dad and brother, buying, raising and selling cattle, an endeavor he loved and enjoyed very much. Bill was a go-getting man who never let the dust settle on his shoes. He was awarded many honors throughout his life; however, his biggest honor was being a servant for others. Bill was the official Winnsboro Historian, and he devoted many years to the preservation of area history and creating public interest in local heritage. Through research, ceremonial celebrations, permanence of detailed historical markers, books, and newspaper columns, he informed and inspired present and future generations. He is survived by his wife of 44 years Betty West Jones; step-daughter, Kathy Parry and husband, Steve; sister, Charline Sorrels; step-granddaughters, Laura Labor and Amy Ramirez; and step-great grandchildren, Haydn Boyd, and Hannah Boyd. Mr. Jones is also survived by many nieces, nephews and his four-legged fur babies, Daisy and Foxy. Graveside service will be held at Lee Cemetery on Friday, November 19, 2021, at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests any donations be made to First Baptist Church of Winnsboro, Cypress Basin Hospice, Gilbreath Memorial Library, or Winnsboro Animal Shelter.
