Bobbie Ray Hughes, 78, of Mineola, TX died on Tuesday, February 4, 2014 in Quitman. He was born on Thursday, March 7, 1935 in Golden, TX to the late Ernest and Frances Hughes. Mr. Hughes was a farmer, Electrical Engineer for four years, Highway Patrol for seven years and a carpenter for five years. He was a Water Superintendent for twenty five years and retired in 1997. He also served on the Alba-Golden School Board and was a Mason for fifty years with the Mineola Masonic Lodge #502, he also served ten years with the Wood County Economic Development. Mr. Hughes was one of the founders of the Golden Sweet Potato Festival.

He is preceded in death by his sister Francine Hughes Butler.

He is survived by his wife of sixty years, Margie Hughes; daughters, Cindy Davidson and husband Roy of Golden, TX, Patty Sinclair and husband Duffie of Quitman, TX , Sandy Nichols and husband Ivan of Royse City, TX; brothers, Sam Hughes and wife Madelyn of Mineola, TX, Bill Hughes and wife Jo Ann of Golden, TX, Mike Hughes and wife Jo Anna of Golden, TX; sister, Annie Joyce Hughes of Decatur, TX; grandchildren, Tully Davidson and wife Molly, Jeffery Davidson; great grandchildren, Hunter Davidson, Dylan Davidson, Sawyer Davidson and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held at Beaty Funeral Home in Mineola on Thursday, February 6, 2014 from 6-8 PM. Funeral service will be held at Beaty Funeral Home in Mineola on Friday February 7, 2014 at 10:00 AM with Pastor Grady Dollar officiating. Interment will follow at Golden Cemetery.
