Bruce Hemmingsen

May 2, 1951 — October 6, 2025

Bruce R. Hemmingsen, 74, passed away on October 6, 2025, in Winnsboro, Texas. Born on May 2, 1951, in Akron, Iowa, where he was raised. Bruce then relocated to Texas where he lived a life rooted in hard work and a deep connection to the land. In the last few years, he was dearly cared for by the nurses and staff at Autumn Wind Senior Living.

From an early age, Bruce dedicated himself to farming and raising beef cattle-a calling that became both his livelihood and his passion. Whether it was mending fences at dawn or checking calves under the stars, he found purpose and pride in every task. These commitments led to the founding of his business, Ultimate Kobe Beef.

Bruce's contributions extended beyond his own fields. In 1993, he played a pivotal role in advancing American cattle breeding when he went on a mission to Japan to procure a shipment of the first Wagyu cattle brought to America. His efforts led to the acquisition of Akiko-one of Japan's top cows-and her subsequent breeding before quarantine began. The resulting calf was carried en utero across the Pacific by plane, marking a significant milestone in Akaushi cattle history. Bruce's involvement in this endeavor reflected not only his expertise but also his dedication to improving livestock genetics on a global scale.

Bruce cherished time spent with family and nature. He found joy in fishing at his pond that created lasting memories with loved ones, especially the goats, cows, and dogs on the farm that his children and grandchildren enjoyed. Additionally, his love for a good beer and steak remained steadfast throughout his life.

Bruce is remembered by those who knew him as a loving father and grandfather. He is survived by his sons Troy Hemmingsen, Colton Hemmingsen, Trent Hemmingsen, and Derek Pettit; granddaughters Holly Hemmingsen, Heidi Hemmingsen, Parker Jinkins, and Emma Allen; grandson Jacoby Pettit; great-grandson Declan; and brothers Alan Hemmingsen and Craig Hemmingsen. He was preceded in death by his parents, Miriam and Gail Hemmingsen.

May Bruce's memory bring comfort to those who knew him and inspiration to all who value hard work, family bonds, and the enduring spirit of rural life.
