Candy Kay Cofer

December 1, 1951 — May 4, 2025

Mrs. Candy Kay Cofer, age 73 of Winnsboro, passed away on Sunday, May 4, 2025, surrounded by family. She was born on December 1, 1951, in Winnsboro, to William Dewey Bearden and Nora Nell Winchester. She married the love of her life, Jerry Wayne Cofer, on March 20, 1976. They built a joy-filled life together in the community they loved.

Kay adored people. From a young age, she grew as an entrepreneur, diving headfirst into the restaurant business, creating space to serve her community with hospitality and a heartwarming meal. She owned and operated multiple restaurants over the years. Alongside her passion for business, she built a beautiful family with Jerry, their five children being her pride and joy. She was a model of unconditional love, perseverance, work ethic and sincerity to all those honored to know her. She was strong, opinionated, and determined, unwavering in her faith and integrity. She was a member of Grace Fellowship Ministries, and enjoyed filling her time with cooking, gardening, picking berries with her grandchildren, playing dominoes, putting together puzzles, shopping (for anything really, but especially great glassware for her ever-growing collection), traveling, sitting on the porch with a glass of sweet iced tea or coffee, and simply being surrounded by the sounds and sights of her family.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry; her son, Michael Russom; parents, William Bearden and Nora Winchester; sister, Shirley Griffin; brothers, Joseph Bearden, William Bearden, and Kenneth Hass; and her grandson, Rusty Cofer.

Survivors include her daughters, Elaine Struthers and her husband, David of Collins, Iowa, Nicole Brooks and her husband, Frankie of Royse City, Stephanie Toppings and her husband, John of Winnsboro; sons, Tim Cofer and his wife, Kim of Corsicana, and Koy Cofer and his wife Kathy of Corsicana; sisters, Delores “Cookie” Duncan, and her husband, Gary of Winnsboro, and Darcey “Doris” Bolt of Dallas; nineteen grandchildren, twenty great grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
