Carlton Melvin Smith, age 91, died Friday, February 3, 2012 in Tyler, Texas. He was born on Tuesday, August 31, 1920 in Beehouse, Texas to the late Ernest Jack and Bertie Mae Smith. He attended First United Methodist Church in Golden, Texas and was a retired template maker for L.T.V. Aeronautics. He served in the United States Army in the 185th Infantry.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Dorothy Wayne Graham; and two brothers, Ray Smith and Nemire Smith.
He is survived by a son, Terry Smith and wife Sandy of Quitman, Texas; a daughter, Gloria Phillips and husband Dick of Grand Saline, Texas; two brothers E. J Smith of Gatesville, Texas and Robert Earl Smith of Tucson, Arizona; four grandchildren Kimbra Bogue and husband Tony of Grand Saline, Angela Savallo and husband Billy of Grand Saline, Derek Smith and wife Shelle of Quitman and Deitra Bizzell and husband Sean of Quitman; nine great grandchildren and six great-great grandchildren.
Visitation for Mr. Smith will be held on Monday, February 6, 2012 at Beaty Funeral Home in Mineola, Texas from 6 - 8 PM.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM on Tuesday, February 7, 2012 at Beaty Funeral Home's Memorial Chapel in Mineola with Rev. Dan Danheim officiating.
