Charles Douglas “Doug” McElroy passed away on July 18, 2021. Despite many complications, Doug came out a hero and stayed strong until entering Heaven’s gate. Doug was born on August 17, 1980, and grew up in Winnsboro, Tx. He graduated from Winnsboro High School in 1999. He loved his teammates and continued to support the Red Raiders long after graduation! Doug spent most of his career working in the aviation industry. He enjoyed camping, fishing, the Dallas Cowboys, and was a master at outdoor grilling. Doug is survived by the love of his life, Melissa McElroy of Crowley, Tx; Dallas, his four-legged fur baby; his mother, Karen Sawyer of Henderson, Tx.; his sister and brother-in-law, Vanessa and Chad Cook; his niece, Malory Cook of Dallas, Tx; his sister-in-law Nancy and her daughter, Austyn Taylor of Burleson, Tx; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Jim and Georgia Sanderson of Crowley, Tx; Craig and Barbara Pugh of Livingston, Tx; his stepsister, Rachel Hicks of Oklahoma, Heath Tally of Winnsboro, Tx; his aunt and uncle, Nick and Dena McElroy of Richardson, Tx; and many favorite cousins and friends that we consider family, as well. Doug was preceded in death by his loving father, Butch McElroy; stepmother, Donna McElroy; and stepfather, Jim Sawyer. There will be a visitation on Saturday, July 24, 2021, at 1:00 p.m., followed by a service at 2:00 p.m. at Beaty Funeral Home in Winnsboro, Tx. Graveside committal will follow at Sharon Cemetery. Pallbearers are: Brian Green, Josh Clay, Chris Clay, Scotty Moses, Jayme Newton, Michael Killion, Josh Davis, Ace Castle, Kumar Cook and Chad Cook. As per the family’s request, in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the “Doug McElroy Memorial Scholarship Fund” at Prosperity Bank, 607 S. Main St., Winnsboro, Texas 75494.
