Clarance Eugene Lupplace

March 23, 1940 — August 12, 2024

Clarance Eugene "Gene" LupPlace, born on March 23, 1940, in Rosboro, Arkansas, passed away on August 12, 2024. Gene, as he was fondly known, was the beloved son of the late Clarance Alexander LupPlace and Christine Tweedle LupPlace. At the age of 10, Gene moved with his family to Dallas, Texas, where he would grow up and lay the foundation for a life marked by service, dedication, and love.

Gene attended Woodrow Wilson High School in Dallas where he lettered in baseball and football while working numerous jobs such as flipping burgers, plumber’s assistant, paper boy, drapery cleaner and many, many others. His work ethic and pride in a job well done were cemented in these years and he always credited several of his employers of this time with teaching him the importance of caring deeply about your employees and treating people right.

Gene proudly served his country in the United States Army Intelligence Corps during the early stages of the Vietnam War, conducting numerous missions in-country, and demonstrating the same determination and steadfastness that would later define his civilian career. After his military service, he embarked on a distinguished career with the United States Postal Service, where he served in senior leadership roles across the country including Dallas, Tyler, Corpus Christie, and Conroe, Texas; Stilwell, Oklahoma; Springfield, Dayton, and Cincinnati, Ohio; and Washington D.C. Due to security concerns and because of his military background, Gene was asked to serve as Postmaster of Washington D.C. at the onset of Operation Desert Storm. He eventually returned to Dallas and completed his 35 year career as the manager of the Dallas postal distribution center. Gene was recognized as a top leader in the Postal Service and served as the management representative during several contract negotiations with national labor unions. He was known as a tough but fair leader who always did the right thing, and his accomplishments left an indelible mark on USPS.

A man of faith, Gene was raised in the Church of Christ but later found his spiritual home in the Baptist faith. His faith guided him through life's many challenges and triumphs.

Gene was not only dedicated to his work and his faith but also to his community. He was a former member of the Kiwanis Club in Stilwell, Oklahoma, where he contributed to many charitable endeavors. He was always willing to help out local schools when needed and supported athletics programs everywhere he went. Beyond his civic duties, Gene was an avid athlete and sports fan with a passion for golf. A lifelong golfer, he achieved the rare distinction of being a scratch golfer, a testament to his skill and dedication to the sport. His retirement years were filled with hundreds of rounds of golf shared with dear friends with whom he played regularly.

Gene's family was the center of his world. He is survived by his loving wife, Sue Mills LupPlace of Winnsboro; his daughter, Nancy Frederick, and her husband, Scott, of Springboro, Ohio; his daughter-in-law, Shirley LupPlace of Ft. Worth; his sister, Alice Worthy of Irving; and his cherished grandchildren, James LupPlace, Alex Rodrigues and her husband, David, and Joseph Frederick. Gene was also a proud great-grandfather to Loralei and Liam.

Gene was preceded in death by his beloved son, Clarance Eugene "Bud" LupPlace Jr., who he now joins in eternal rest.

He dearly loved his extended family and many were also his closest friends, including his brothers and sisters-in-law and over 20 nieces and nephews.
