Lena Claudine Vandiver York
Claudine York was born April 14, 1923, to Guild and Arless Vandiver, in Golden, Texas and died March29, 2022. She attended Golden Public Schools and graduated in 1940 as the Valedictorian of her senior class. She attended East Texas State Teachers College in Commerce and worked at the Naval Air Station in Grand Prairie during WWII and later as the secretary to the County Judge in Quitman, TX. After the war, she married Milford York, and they lived in Mineola, Alexandria, LA and finally Irving for 25 years. She was a substitute elementary school teacher when her three children were small and later worked for the City of Irving as an Executive Secretary for 15 years. She and her husband retired and moved back to Mineola in 1985. They celebrated their 60'" wedding anniversary in July 2006.
Claudine and Milford were active members of FBC Alexandria, FBC Irving, and FBC Mineola. Claudine was an active member of the PEO Mineola chapter until she reached 92 and could no longer drive. Claudine was known to visit many members of the church and community when they were ill, and she would always take them cookies.
Claudine was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. They always called her "Granny." She would spoil them with home cooked meals and cobblers and ice cream.
She is survived by a daughter, Betty Renfrow and husband David of Mineola, one son, Larry York and wife Linda of Cleburne, another daughter, Julie Zettler and husband Larry of McKinney. She is survived also by her seven grandchildren and their spouses, Kristen and Ron Piwetz, Mandy Renfrow, Zach and Laura Zettler, Erin and Michael Strange, Cody and Lori Zettler, Jared and Krista York, and Brittany and Kelly Bowers, and her fourteen great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Arless and Guild Vandiver, her husband, Milford York, three brothers, Jimmy, George, and John Vandiver, and two sisters Jenny Bunn and "Little Merle.' " She also lost a precious grandson, Brandon Renfrow, and daughter in law, Jeannie York in recent years.
If desired, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, Mineola, Texas Baptist Men, Samaritan's Purse, or a charity of one's choice.
