Services for David Vincent Kitchens, 95, of Mineola are scheduled for 11:00 AM Monday, March 5, 2007 at First Baptist Church of Mineola with Dr. Mark Neeley officiating. Burial will be at Mineola City Cemetery. Friends and family will be pallbearers.
Mr. Kitchens died Saturday morning, March 3rd at Hospice of East Texas after a short illness.
He was born August 25, 1911 at 705 Sycamore Street in Mineola, the fifth child of William D. and Frances Ella Hathcox Kitchens. He graduated from Mineola High School in 1927 and attended Texas A&M College. David served in the US Navy during World War II. He was stationed in Saipan, Marianas Islands. After the war, he was in the Kitchens Hardware business with his father and brother Paul, then later on his own. Mr. Kitchens retired in the early 1980's. He was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Rosemond Harman Kitchens, a Mineola teacher; two brothers, Paul and Jack Kitchens; and two sisters, Ethel Canterbury and Charm Reitch. Survivors include two sons, John David Kitchens of Lake Jackson, Texas and William Harman Kitchens of Lindale; one daughter, Charm Barrett and husband James of Plano, Texas; three grandsons, Jay Kitchens, David Barrett, and Daniel Barrett, their wives Suzanne and Amy Barrett; and two great grandchildren Daniel Barrett and Anna Rose Barrett.
