David Lane Smith

Oct 23, 1957 — May 8, 2026

David "Davey" Lane Smith, 68, of Hainesville, TX was born on October 23, 1957, in Oak Cliff, Texas to David and Linda Smith. He was welcomed home by his big sister and brother Debbie and Danny. Davey grew up playing baseball and getting into trouble with the neighborhood kids. He attended Sunset High School where he solidified lifelong friendships as part of the graduating class of 1976. He would continue to cultivate those relationships throughout his life. Davey attended Dallas Baptist University where he was a pitcher for the baseball team. In 1977 he met Donna Allred and they became college sweethearts and married October 11, 1980.

Davey worked in sales and eventually began his teaching and coaching career with Dallas Christian Academy. Throughout his 25-year long career he worked for Red Oak, Maypearl, Venus, and Dallas ISDs coaching and teaching everything from history to pre-k before retirement.

Davey and Donna welcomed their first child James David in 1981 and their second child Holly Suzanne in 1984. Fatherhood and family were the top of the priority list for Davey. He coached little league baseball, football, and basketball, attended cheer competitions, and made it his priority to create an inviting home where all his friends as well as James and Holly's friends felt welcomed and like part of the family. He was known for his quiet generosity, humor, and love for music. He could be found most often outside tending to his plants and singing along to his favorite tunes, usually with a ball game on in the background. Davey's faith and encouraging spirit were also hallmarks of his life, often reminding everyone that "God is good all the time, and all the time God is good!" Davey's family, friendships, and faith will be what he is most remembered for by those he left behind.

He was preceded in death by his Father David Augustus Smith and Mother Linda Jo Smith. He is survived by his wife Donna, son James Smith, daughter Holly Lewis, son in law James Lewis and daughter in law Lacy Smith, siblings Debbie & Rusty Adams and Danny & Sandra Smith, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and 5 grandchildren Easton, Grayson, Mickey, Ryan, and Juniper.
