Memorial services for Dr. Don Robert Chapman, age 65, of Winnsboro will be held at 1:00PM on Friday, February 1, 2013 at First Baptist Church of Winnsboro with Bro.David Rose officiating.

Dr. Chapman died January 28, 2013 in Dallas, surrounded by loving family members.

He was born on Sept. 17, 1947, in Houston, to Dr. Don W. Chapman (deceased) and Mary Lou Whitney Chapman.

He is survived by his loving wife, Karla August Chapman, and sons Michael Kord Chapman and wife, Jessica, of Nebraska; Joel Cass Chapman and wife, Jessica, of Winnsboro, TX.; a sister Nancy Chapman Colb, her husband, Andy, and their daughter Anna of Washington, DC.; two grandchildren, Natalie White-Chapman and Harlan Chapman who brought great joy into his life; and numerous nephews and nieces.

Dr. Chapman attended the University of Houston and earned his pre-med degree in 1971. After medical school, an internship and completing his residency in general surgery at Herman Hospital UT Houston, he completed a residency in Orthopedic Surgery at the Baylor College of Medicine. While in his residency under Red Duke M.D. at Herman Hospital, he was the first working physician on the first LifeFlight helicopter in the United States. Dr. Chapman was then awarded a fellowship with Houston Sports Medicine and Baylor College of Medicine. He then opened his private practices as an orthopedic surgeon in Dallas and later, Winnsboro, specializing in sports medicine and total knee replacement surgery. Dr. Chapman provided care to many area high schools and colleges. Certified by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery, he was also a member of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons and American Orthopedic Society of Sports Medicine. He was one of thirteen Chapman physicians over five generations.

A devoted Aggie fan, Dr. Chapman also enjoyed a passion for flying, obtaining his pilot license prior to his driving license. He was a professional tennis player and loved to snow ski. More importantly, he continued with a lifelong agricultural goal of a working cattle ranch in East Texas(RK Ranch) with his family. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Winnsboro.
