Donny Lee Barber, born on December 8, 1943, in Pittsburg, Texas, passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of music, love, and cherished memories. Donny was the son of the late James and Bessie Barber, growing up in a family where his passions for music and creativity were nurtured.
A talented musician, Donny was gifted in playing the clarinet and piano. He often shared his musical talents with his twin sister, Edie, accompanying her on piano while she sang at church, creating moments that touched the hearts of all who listened. Music was not only his passion but his lifelong calling. Donny dedicated many years to teaching music at Mesquite High School and North Mesquite High School, inspiring countless students to find joy and expression in music.
Donny enjoyed life to the fullest, embracing hobbies such as cooking, gardening, and collecting crystal items, each reflecting his appreciation for beauty and craftsmanship. His warm presence and engaging spirit made him a beloved family member and friend.
Donny is survived by his sons, John and Daryl; his sisters, Louise, Edith, and Bettie; and his grandchildren, Justin, Jason, Dustin, and Dillon. He is preceded in death by his parents, James and Bessie; his brothers, Charles, Bobby Ray, and Jerry; and his sisters, Lora and Geraldine.
Donny’s kindness, musical talent, and dedication to family and students will be remembered fondly. He leaves a legacy of love and music that will continue to inspire all who were fortunate to know him.
