Obituary

Dorene Gabel, 76, of Texas, passed away peacefully on October 18, 2026. Born on March 25, 1950 in Beacon NY, Dorene was a dedicated office manager in the generator equipment industry, where she made a lasting impact through her professionalism and commitment. She graduated with honors from SUNY Purchase earning her bachelor's degree in liberal arts in 2006, a testament to her strong work ethic and determination.

In 2009, Dorene retired and relocated to Marshall Texas, where she embraced her passion for Spanish Mustang horses and all things equestrian. Her love of horses defined her retirement years and she found great joy and beauty in the companionship of these amazing animals. In 2010 she married the love of her life Paul Gabel on horseback. They moved to Quitman Texas in 2013 where they enjoyed many happy trails together till his passing in 2016. She was equally enthusiastic about the arts, frequently attending live performances of opera, ballet, and symphony further enriching her life with culture and creativity.

An accomplished traveler, Dorene explored countless museums and galleries across Europe, including notable trips to Germany, Italy, France, and Amsterdam, as well as five memorable trips to her beloved England. Her travels also included island-hopping adventures in Aruba, Captiva and Sanibel as well as the Florida Keys and relaxing cruise to the Bahamas. However, it was her cherished road trips along Route 66, especially during the blooming of the cacti, that held a special place in her heart.

Dorene was preceded in death by Stella Ott, Paul Gabel, Carol Ott Kimbark, and Rick Ott. Dorene is survived by her beloved kitty Izzy Cat; daughter, Nichole Chiarappa; her son, Michael Leahy; and her cherished nephews and niece, Bill Kimbark, Keith Kimbark, Mark Kimbark, and Christine Ott.

A memorial service will be held on November 7, 2026 at 11:00 am at Beaty Funeral Home in Mineola, Texas. Reception to follow.

Dorene's vibrant spirit and passion for life will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
