Dorothy Louise Garvin
Dorothy Louise Garvin, a beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on January 26, 2025, at the age of 98. Born on July 12, 1926, in New Boston, Texas, Dorothy was the cherished daughter of Henry Franklin Bookout and Sarah Louise "Ruby" Preston Bookout.
Dorothy’s life was marked by a commitment to service, learning, and family. She proudly served her country as a Private in the United States Army during World War II, demonstrating courage and dedication. After her service, she pursued higher education, earning an Associate Degree in English, which reflected her love for language and communication.
Dorothy built a fulfilling career as a civil servant and realtor, retiring after years of hard work and devotion to her community. She was also a former member of the Order of the Eastern Star, where she developed lasting friendships and contributed to her community.
In her free time, Dorothy found joy in playing board games and cherishing the company of her beloved cat, Blackie, whose presence brought her immense happiness. She especially treasured the moments spent with her great-granddaughters, Emily and Abie, who often visited after school to play Chinese Checkers. Dorothy loved teaching Abie how to sew, sharing her skills and creating lasting memories. Her quick wit and kind-hearted spirit left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know her.
Dorothy is survived by her devoted daughter, Jan Crow and husband, Glen and her loving son, John Dorough. She leaves behind a legacy of love in her grandchildren: Charles McLean (Donna Wade), Sarah Clark (Eric), Anthony McLean, David McLean (Aubrie), and Nina Sprague (Dalton). Her great-grandchildren, Nathan Clark, Emily Clark, Abie Clark, Preston Crow, Gabe Crow, Caden Crow, and Easton Sprague, were a source of immense pride and joy.
She is preceded in death by her brother, Earl Bookout, and his wife, Donna; her sister, Frances Kossey, and her husband, James.
Dorothy’s family and friends will forever cherish her memory and celebrate the incredible life she led. Her kindness, strength, and wisdom left an indelible mark on everyone she touched. She will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Donna Wade for caring for their Mother so lovingly.
