Duane Robert Rich, 82, of Winnsboro, Texas passed away on September 4, 2021, at his home and cabin in the woods after a day surrounded by family.
He was born to parents Melvin Rich and Ila Rich on October 24, 1938, in Sioux City, Iowa. He completed compulsory education in Pasadena, Texas and promptly enlisted in the United States Army. After his time of service to his country, he received training in air conditioning and refrigeration systems and employed that training at the NASA Johnson Space Center in Houston, Texas at the Superconducting Super Collider near Waxahachie, Texas, and internationally with Air Liquide before retiring to his log cabin in Winnsboro.
He married Linda in 1967, who survives him. Duane is also survived by his children Gay Nord, Drew Kellar, and Robert Rich as well as his grandchildren Seth Rich, Jared Rich, Noah Rich, Rebekah Rich, Olivia Kellar, Amelia Kellar, his brother Gary Rich, and his sister Margaret Holland. He was predeceased by parents Melvin and Ila Rich and his brother Craig.
Duane was known for his enviable work ethic and a lifetime of service to others through small but consistent acts of altruism. It would not be uncommon to find him sharing firewood with neighbors, using his mechanical gifts to fix things for others, or building a church from the ground up. He rarely had a harsh or judgmental word for anyone.
