Edna Mae Frances Johnson

September 16, 1925 — November 28, 2022

Edna Mae Frances Alexander Johnson was born September 16, 1925 in Lone Oak, Texas and went home to meet Jesus on November 28, 2022 at the age of 97. She was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years Virgil Johnson (1986) and daughter Carolin (2014). She is survived by Elaine Cook (daughter) of Mesquite, TX; Darlene Green (daughter) and husband David of Mineola, TX; and Wayne Johnson (son) and wife Shirley, also of Mineola. She is also the proud Granny of 12 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren and 22 great-great grandchildren.

She married her childhood sweetheart Virgil Johnson on October 27, 1940. When Virgil entered the Army in 1942 to serve in World War II, she moved to Dallas, working for the North American Company as a “Rosie the Riveter” helping to make P51 Mustang fighters. Mrs. Johnson and her husband Virgil were proprietors of Alexander Grocery & Market on South Pacific Street for almost a quarter-century from 1961 until just before Virgil’s death in 1986. Thru this store, she and her husband provided dedicated and caring service to many families in South Mineola during that time. She faithfully attended several churches throughout her life including Methodist, Baptist and non-denominational congregations. She lived the final 30 years of her life with her daughter Elaine in Mesquite.

She is remembered by her grandchildren and others who knew her as loving, fiercely protective and possessing a wonderfully sarcastic sense of humor.

Pallbearers are Jerry Don Green (grandson), Kevin Johnson (grandson), Drew Cook (great grandson), Alex Cook (great grandson), Jacob Jourdan (great grandson), Caleb Cannon (great grandson), Dakota Green (great grandson), Jacob Green (great grandson) Dylan Jourdan (grandson) and Colton Green.
