Elmer Philmore Bunn, 91 of Mineola, TX died peacefully with his family at his side on June 19, 2014. Elmer was born in Davenport, Iowa on September 11, 1922, to the late Dr. and Mrs. E.P. Bunn.
He graduated from Mineola high School in 1941. He served his country during WWII as as aviation machinist in the US Navy from 1941 to 1945. After his military duty, he worked 38 years for SW Bell Telephone Company in Fort Worth. Upon retirement, he returned to Mineola, the town where he had grown up.
Mr. Bunn was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Mineola and was the oldest living member of the Masonic Lodge #502 in Mineola. He also spent much of his adult life as a Boy Scout leader in the Boy Scouts of America. A true outdoorsman, Elmer enjoyed camping, hunting, fishing, and flying his airplane. On a special note was Elmer’s participation in the “Brookshires Sponsored” trip to Washington D.C, and it’s War Memorials.
He is survived by his wife of nearly 66 years, Jenny Bunn, two sons; Gary Bunn of Vancouver, WA, Alan Bunn of Hitchcock, TX; three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Sunday June 22, 2014 at Beaty Funeral Home in Mineola from 6 to 8 PM. Funeral service will be on Monday June 23, 2014 at First United Methodist Church in Mineola at 1:00PM officiated by Bro. Darrell Coats. In lieu of flowers if desired donations may be made to First United Methodist Church of Mineola in his name.
