Elsie Wilma Purvis

Elsie Wilma Purvis, age 82, was called home to be with the Lord on Monday, September 9, 2024. A faithful loving mother, Elsie was born to Merle and Pauline Kennell.

Elsie enjoyed playing music, excelling at the accordion, piano, and organ. She devoted her career as a health care provider with over 35 years of service.

She was preceded in death by her husband Marvin Purvis, mother Pauline Lee and father Merle Kennell. Mrs. Purvis is survived by daughter Lisa Shrout and husband Roger of Fort Ashby, West Virginia; daughter Pennie Taylor and husband Bennie of Lindale, Texas; son Charles E. Bittner and wife Mary of Quitman, Tx.; son Kevin Bittner and wife Darlene of Cumerland, Maryland; and son Benjamin Collins and wife Katy of Mineola, Texas. She was also survived by 23 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren. Elsie is also survived by sister Lois Walker and husband David of Meyersdale, Pa.; sister Karen Moore and husband Charles of Clearville, Pa. and brother Edward Kennell and wife Nan of Red Lion, Pa. along with many nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life will be held for family and friends at Elsie’s home on Saturday, October 5th at 1:00 p.m. Internment will be held at the Lutheran Community Church in Wellersburg, Pa. on Saturday, November 16th at 1:00 p.m. with the Rev. Jon Bennett officiating. Immediately after the service refreshments will be provided at the Fort Ashby Fire Hall in Fort Ashby, WV.
