Eugenia James

Eugenia Marlene James, age 84 of Winnsboro, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 5, 2024 in Winnsboro, Texas. She was born on July 9, 1939 in Magnolia, Arkansas to the late Thornton and Margaret Stewart. Eugenia was married to Dr. Karl James for 51 years who passed away in May of 2023.

Eugenia attended Southern Methodist University and later Southwestern University obtaining her Master's Degree in Christian Education.

Eugenia founded Creative Learning Preschool in Winnsboro which she operated for 30 years. She taught Sunday School at First United Methodist Church as well as serving on the Winnsboro school board. After she retired from her preschool obligations, she worked as a substitute teacher for the Winnsboro school district.

Eugenia took a story from her husband's childhood about a bombing during World War II and turned it into a children's book. Writing was sadly interrupted by dementia and other health issues.

Eugenia loved reading, playing the piano, speaking Spanish and traveling. She had a positive impact on her community and will be missed.

Survivors include her son, Norman James and his wife, Kelly of Wimberley, Texas; daughter, Marsha Ihrig and her husband, Joel, of Winnsboro, Texas; brother, Mike Stewart of Houston, Texas and sister, Caroline Hines and her husband Bill of Carmel, California; six grandchildren, Miranda, Randy, Sterling, Kendal, Jordan, and Alden; two great grandchildren, Nathan and Daniel; nieces and nephews in Texas, California, Massachusetts and Montana; and many dear friends.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday January 20, 2024 at 11:00 am at Beaty Funeral Home 816 W. Broadway Winnsboro, TX.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Autumn Winds Assisted Living and the team at Choice Hospice for caring for both Karl and Eugenia during their final days.
