Evelyn Burnell Hutcherson

Evelyn Burnell Farris Hutcherson Jett was born in Mansfield, Louisiana in 1923, and went to be with the Lord in her 98th year, on December 26, 2020. She is preceded in death by her parents, Mae and Marvin Farris; her sister, Lexi Lee Brame; and her three brothers, Ottis, Otis, and Wesley Farris; her first husband Ed Hutcherson; and her second husband Ernest Jett. She is survived by one sister, Eloise Pauley of Granbury, Texas; three children, Sylvia Maddox (Peter) of San Antonio, Texas; Sharon Gorham (George) of Edmond, Oklahoma; Jimmy Hutcherson of Waco, Texas; two stepsons, Ernest Jett (Jeanine),of Tyler, Texas; and David Jett (Gayle), of Tyler, Texas; six grandchildren; 10great grandchildren; and countless friends and church family members. Burnell, as she was known, graduated from White Oak High School before moving to Garland, Texas to work in a defense plant during World War II, as that of Rosie the Riveter. It was at that defense plant that she met her husband, Ed. The Hutchersons moved to Winnsboro in October 1949. She was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church for over 70 years, where she also served for over 60 years as a Sunday School teacher, a longtime member of the choir, supporter of the young people, Vacation Bible School volunteer, and former President of the WMU(Women on Mission). She worked for a few years at a local children’s clothing store, Ann ‘N Dan. She was a faithful volunteer worker, who served for over 50 years as a local hospital volunteer, and in 1980, she and her husband were chosen as Winnsboro’s Woman and Man of the Year. On February 14, 2018, the City of Winnsboro proclaimed it to be “Burnell Hutcherson Day” in recognition of her many decades of volunteer service. After the death of her first husband, she married Ernest Jett from Tyler, Texas, at Baylor University in 2011.  Burnell was known for her joy, her optimistic spirit, and her undying faith in the Lord. She loved singing and was known for having a song for every occasion. She was an encourager and testified that trust in the Lord could lift up every hurting heart. She was not just a hearer of God’s Word, but a doer as well. A Visitation will be held this Saturday, January 2, at the Beaty Funeral Home between 10:00am and 12:00 pm, followed a by a family graveside service at Lee Cemetery. The family will host a “Celebration of Life” service at a later date to be determined. Donations can be made in memory of Burnell Hutcherson to the Hawaii Baptist Academy, (21 Bates Street, Honolulu, Hawaii 96822 or www.hba.net) where she served for over40 years on HBA’s Mainland Advisory Council, and/or to the mission and youthwork of the First Baptist Church of Winnsboro.   We invite all who knew and loved her to join us this Saturday for the Visitation.
