Florence Virginia Lockey

Florence Virginia Lockey, age 83, of Mineola, Texas, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, October 11, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. Virginia was born on July 25, 1942, in Hawkins, Texas, to Virgil and Zora Slayton. She was one of nine children. 

On July 27, 1957, she married the love of her life, James Lockey, and together they built a beautiful life and family over 62 years of marriage. Virginia retired from Winona ISD in 2019 after 15 years of dedicated service. Above all, she devoted her life to her family. She found her greatest joy in spending time with her family gathered around her. Virginia loved playing games, sharing laughter, and reading in her quiet moments. 

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, James Lockey; her parents, Virgil and Zora Slayton; and seven of her siblings. Virginia is survived by her three children: son Darrell Lockey and wife Sandy of Tyler; daughter Lesia Robertson and husband Tim of Mineola; and daughter Sheila Stripling of Mineola. She is also survived by eight grandchildren, twenty-three great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren.

 Virginia’s love, kindness, and gentle spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
