Mrs. Florence June Rhoades, age 86, of Winnsboro, Texas, passed away peacefully on Friday, December 8, 2023, in Mount Pleasant, Texas. She was born on September 13, 1937, in Stone County, Missouri to the late Iral Thomas and Almaretta Asher Thomas.
Florence was a homemaker, seamstress and longtime member of Walnut Street Baptist Church in Winnsboro. She was a founding member of the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 340. She also loved meeting with the Grace Hill Grief Group, and has enjoyed being a member of Community Bible Study for many years.
After graduating from Marionville High School in 1957, Florence married Parks W. McCullah on June 12, 1957 and became mother to his daughter, Deanna Kay. Later, July 27, 1958, she gave birth to Audena Sue. During their marriage, Florence was active as a loving mother , pastor’s wife, and seamstress. During their ministry, they moved to churches in Hector,Ark; Winnsboro, Tx, Searcy, AR; and back to Winnsboro, Tx in 1968. In 1985 their marriage ended in divorce at which time Florence became employed at Radio Shack in Winnsboro. During her working years, she met Curtis Rhoades. They soon realized they were each other’s soul mates and were married in 1996. These were the happiest years of Florence’s life. Sadly, Curtis passed away in 2018 leaving Florence with much love and many wonderful memories.
During Florence’s lifetime it was obvious to anyone who knew her that she had great love for our Lord, Jesus Christ, our country, her family – especially her granddaughters and great granddaughter, and the beautiful country side and blue skies of Missouri. She spent many enjoyable hours sewing and doing craft work. She was loved by so many: past and present, and will be missed beyond measure.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Curtis Rhoades; sisters, Rose Harrington and Rebecca McCullah.
Survivors include her daughter; Audena Hosey and her husband, Marshall of Mt. Pleasant; step daughter, Deanna McCullah of Winnsboro; brother, Ben Thomas of Springfield, Missouri; and his children, Charles, Karen, and Larry; two grandchildren, Heather Hosey and Bridget Hosey along with one great grandchild, Jade Elise Tennison.
