Florene "Penny" Barrett

Florene "Penny" Barrett, age 85, passed away peacefully on March 4, 2025. Penny was born on February 9, 1940, in Dallas, Texas, to Johnnie Riley Monday and Crady St. John.

Penny spent her career working as a cashier at Wal-Mart, where her warm smile and kind spirit made her a favorite among customers and co-workers alike. In her free time, she loved playing bingo, and her competitive spirit at the bingo hall was well known to her friends and family.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Kenneth Eugene Barrett, who passed away in 2003. Also by a son, Danny Dillard, her step-father that help raise her, Sidney Oran Dillard and five brother, J.R. Monday, Rayond Monday, Clifton Monday, G.A. Dillard, Earl "Buzzy" Dillard, and one sister, Deloris Arrington.

Penny is survived by her daughter, Cathy Reeks and her husband, Cory; her five grandchildren, Chris, Rocky, Bryce, Destiny, and Blake; six great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Her life was a testament to the power of love, kindness, and resilience. Penny’s family and friends will miss her dearly but take comfort in knowing that she is reunited with her beloved Kenneth and other loved ones who have gone before her.
