Floyd James Self, 76, passed away on February 12, 2026, in Sherman, Texas.
Floyd was born on July 22, 1949, in Blue Ridge, Georgia as the twin brother of Lloyd Self. As a young boy, he moved with his family to Michigan City, Indiana, where he spent most of his childhood and teenage years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie and Fannie Bell Self, and by his eight brothers: RB, JC, Roy, Hershel ("Pee Wee"), Eugene, Robert, Vance, and Lloyd. Floyd was the youngest of nine children and the last surviving sibling.
Floyd briefly served in the United States Air Force. During his time in service, he made the decision to request leave in order to care for his family.
He later followed his brothers to the Garland and Plano, Texas area, where he worked as a Volkswagen mechanic. Floyd had a natural mechanical ability and took pride in honest, hands-on work. He also worked in construction alongside his brothers.
Above all, Floyd loved to fish. Fishing was more than a pastime for him - he truly cherished fishing with his family and especially his grandkids. He also enjoyed working on cars and boats and casually collecting coins, always appreciating the satisfaction of fixing things and spending time outdoors.
Floyd professed faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, a conviction that was meaningful to him and to his family.
He is survived by his daughter, Amanda Feagin and husband Clint of McKinney, Texas, and his son Chad Self and his wife Jamie of Whitewright, Texas. He also leaves behind five beloved grandchildren: Aaron and Claire Feagin, and Caleb, Chloe, and Colton Self.
Floyd spent the later part of his life in Scroggins, Texas, where he enjoyed a quieter pace and time near the water.
He will be remembered for his strong work ethic, his love of staying busy and fixing what needed fixing, his love for his family, and his enjoyment of a simple life.
Visitation will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, February 19, 2026, at Beaty Funeral Home, 816 W. Broadway Street, Winnsboro, Texas 75494. Funeral services will follow at 12:00 p.m. at the same location.
