Floyd Eugene Williams

Services for Floyd Eugene Williams, 86, of Mesquite, formerly of Winnsboro, will be held at Beaty Funeral Home, 816 W. Broadway, Winnsboro, on Tuesday, May 28, 2013 at 11:00 am, with the Rev. Charles Ethridge and Nub Brown of Pine Street Baptist Church officiating. Interment will be at Maple Springs Cemetery, Maple Springs, Camp County.


Floyd passed away on Monday, May 20, 2013, in the presence of his children and grandchildren. He was born in Pine Grove (Modoc) community near Athens, TX to Duren J. “Buck” and Erva Lou Morrow Williams, the second of two sons born to them.

He married Geneva Lee Hallman on May 2, 1945, and remained married to her for 64 years until her passing on December 10, 2011. They lived and raised their family in Dallas, were very active in Grove Haven Baptist Church, and in 1995 retired to Geneva’s hometown of Winnsboro. They were members of Pine Street Baptist Church.

As a youth, Floyd worked for the Galveston Wharf Railway. At 18, he joined the U.S. Navy as a butcher, where he served in the Pacific on the USS Zeilin APA 3. After the war ended, Floyd and Geneva briefly managed the Sky Court Motel located on the famous Route 66 in Albuquerque, NM. He worked for Perry Smith Grocery and Market and Alexander Grocery in Hooks, Armour Meats in Texarkana, Kreck Packing Company in Dallas, and he retired from Decker Food Company in Garland.


Floyd loved travelling the U.S. with his wife, her many relatives, and their friends, and he enjoyed bowling, gardening, camping, and fishing. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, DJ Williams in 1991, and his wife, Geneva.

He is survived by his two children, Gary Williams and his wife, Gerry of Tyler, and Jana Williams and her partner, Wayne Martin of Mesquite; 4 grandchildren, Jason Williams, Summer Morrow, Casey Williams, and Samantha Milton; 5 great-grandchildren, Hayley Williams, Sydney Morrow, Riley Morrow, Cayden Chaffin, and Braylon Chaffin; cousin, Mae Williams of Athens; paternal nieces, Sandra Clardy of Idabel, OK, and Teena Autrey of Hooks, and many more nieces and nephews.

Floyd’s family expresses their heartfelt thanks and appreciation to Drs. Janga and Carvalho, and the nurses, techs, and respiratory staff at Texas Regional Medical Center in Sunnyvale, TX for the excellent medical care and loving attention they provided during Floyd’s brief illness.

Family will receive visitors one hour prior to the service at funeral home.
