In loving memory of Frances S. Wylie Saturday, July 29th 2023, Frances Wylie quietly slipped away in her sleep, ending one life to enter another with her lord Jesus Christ. She was 94 years old. Frances S. Wylie was born on December, 3rd 1928, daughter of the late Frank and Victoria (Zawacki) Sliva. Frances was born and raised in Escanaba, MI. She graduated from Escanaba High School in 1947 and married her high school sweetheart Henry Wylie.
While being a military spouse alongside her husband in the Navy for 23 years of service to our country, Frances exhibited great strength and grace. Military spouses are brave, resilient and ambitious while also nurturing, kind and understanding. Frances made every house a home while following Henry from one duty station to the next. She was very loving and patient with her two young sons, especially when functioning as a single mother while Henry was overseas.
One of Frances’ many passions, was Art. While stationed on the island of Guam, a series of Chinese brush painting classes launched Frances into her career in Art. Frances continued her art and studied with private teachers and classes in Carmel, CA, Ann Arbor, MI and Port Orchard, WA.
Her first award was received at a Sidewalk Art Show in Carmel in 1960 and since then she has been awarded numerous ribbons in showcases and competitions. She served as a member, President and Director on the Board for Gallery 23 in Spanish Village in Balboa Park, Southwestern Artists Guild, the SD Watercolor Society, and the Chula Vista Art Guild.
Not all who wander are lost and this is true for Frances and Henry. They spent many years exploring our beautiful country from coast to coast, visiting family and friends and filling their hearts with happy memories. Camping, fishing and laughter nourished their souls.
Fran’s hands were always busy, cooking, painting, sewing, crocheting & baking as a wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Whether she was making ornaments or Christmas cookies- all are cherished memories for all who love her.
With Hank by her side, Frances proudly sang in the Southwestern College Chorale. Under the direction of Terry Russell, this Chula Vista based group of talented singers performed in Carnegie Hall in NYC more than once, and traveled to Paris, France where the chorale sang in a dozen cathedrals.
In her later years, Frances was active in Mineola league of the arts, Chair yoga, and Hansville Baptist church, and continued to enjoy traveling.
Those left to cherish her memory are her two sons, Jerry Wylie and wife Susan of Lyme, CT, Kenneth Wylie of MI, two former daughters-in-law, Viola Wylie and Bonnie(Don) Longstreth, three granddaughters, Heather and Capt. Heath Kinder of Mineola, TX, Lilah and Jon Wagner of San Marcos, CA, Charlene and Mark Selvik of Pine Valley, CA. Frances is cherished in the memories of her 6 great grandchildren who filled her heart with joy and laughter. Logan and Victoria Kinder, Pearson and Wyatt Selvik and Henley and Anson Wagner.
