Frank Hearn Mitchell was born October 19, 1929 in Los Angeles, California and passed away July 17, 2017 in Tyler, Texas. Frank grew up in Dexter, Oregon. As a young man, he worked in the logging industry until he joined the Navy and was stationed in Pensacola, Florida. While there, he met Martha B Burks on a blind date on July 4, 1949; they were married August 4, 1950 and were looking forward to soon celebrating their 67th anniversary. Frank was a Navy veteran and served aboard the USS Leyte as a parachute rigger in the Korean War. His career was in sales management for the piano industry, and later, the insurance industry as an agent for Farmers. He was a 32nd degree Mason and a member of the Mineola Masonic Lodge. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Mineola. Having not grown up in a large family, Frank quickly learned to enjoy Martha’s three sisters, her dad, and especially her mother’s cooking. As the family grew, the nieces and nephews loved having Uncle Frank around, as he let them join in the fun of whatever he was doing at the time. Frank was a devoted family man who was proud of his two daughters, loved his sons in law, and enjoyed his grandchildren and great grandsons. He had a natural mechanical gift and could fix all things broken. He was often a help to many in that regard. He is survived by his beloved and devoted wife, Martha; his daughters Darlene Sorrels and husband, Larry; Denece Hodges and husband DeWayne; grandchildren Aaron Sorrels, Stephanie Foster and husband Scott, Allison Hodges; great grandsons Hudson and Harrison Foster.
Memorial service is scheduled for Saturday, July 22, 2017 at 1:00 pm at First Baptist Church, Mineola with Dr. Mark Neeley officiating.
