Freda Anderson

1944 — 2026

Scroggins

Freda Wren Anderson was born May 25, 1944 in Gilmer, Texas and passed away peacefully March 18, 2026 at her home in Scroggins at age 81. As the daughter of Carl and Ollie Wren, Freda grew up in Perryville and spent her childhood years playing, laughing, fussing and fighting with her older siblings May Etta, Joe, and Jack. But life changed when little brother Randy was born in 1955. She assumed the role of big sister and diaper changer! Freda attended school at Union Hill and had many stories of her school days, but her favorite memory she loved to share was as a young girl, she got to see Elvis twice live in concert in Gilmer!

Freda's life changed again in 1960, when she met and married a young man named Jerry Anderson. They soon set up housekeeping in Scroggins, in the white frame house that would be their home for the next 65 years. Over the next two years, Freda gave birth to two children, Keith and Miranda, whom she loved and cared for as only an adoring mother could. But as much as she loved her children, she found even more love for her grand-daughters Robin, Callan, and Anna. Still not finished, she spread her love to great-grandson Nathanael.

Freda always worked hard to help support and care for her family. Working in the sewing factories in Winnsboro and cleaning houses were just two of the jobs she held over the years. But Freda is probably most remembered for the years she worked at the Winnsboro DQ, serving up burgers and ice cream to the locals. Away from work, she enjoyed the simple pleasures like reading books, tending her flowers, and singing in the choir at Perryville Baptist Church, where she had been a member since childhood. But most of all, Freda loved her family. Being with family, visiting family, caring for her family. Even though she spent the last years of her life in poor health, she could always muster a smile and an "I love you" for her family.

Freda is survived by her husband of 65 years, Jerry Anderson; her son, Keith Anderson and his wife Becky; her daughter, Miranda Burson and her husband Mark; and her sister May Etta Shirley. Her legacy continues with grandchildren Robin Anderson and her husband Rowan Lehr; Callan Gearner and her husband Ryan; Anna Burson; and great-grandson Nathanael Gearner. She is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Ollie Wren; her brothers Joe Wren, Jack Wren, and Randy Wren.

As we mourn Freda's passing, her memory will remain forever in the hearts of her family and friends.
