Gail Walters

April 11, 1937 — March 29, 2024

Gail grew up in Winnsboro graduating from Winnsboro High School in 1955. During high school, she played the trombone in the Red Raider band. She also enjoyed the limelight of being a trick baton twirler and performing with flaming batons at football games.

Professionally, Gail was a diligent worker, providing for her family through various roles. She began her career as a legal secretary for M.D. Carlock while also working at Lou's Country Inn and 4D Steak House. Using her legal skills, she ventured into a thriving career as a Petroleum Landman, working across Illinois, Florida, and her beloved home state of Texas.

A long-time member of First Baptist Church Winnsboro, Gail was a member of several Sunday school classes through the years. She actively participated in the adult choir during the 1970s and was a part of the “I Love America” choral group which celebrated the USA sesquicentennial in 1976.

Gail's life was marked by her unwavering dedication to her family and friends. She enjoyed Saturday morning coffees with the girls: Sarah, Marlene, Midge, and Shirley, or getting together to celebrate each friend’s birthday. She cherished moments spent with her family and grandchildren, whether playing cards, watching movies, or enjoying charades. She also treasured annual summer weeks at her beloved Chickasaw Recreation campground in Sulphur, Oklahoma, a tradition carried from her childhood and passed down to her children and grandchildren.

Despite facing challenges, such as losing her sight to macular degeneration, Gail remained resilient and active in her community. She found solace in her love for reading digital audiobooks and serving others. Gail's compassionate nature extended beyond her own family, as she dedicated her time to serving others at the local food pantry, the Winnsboro Community Resource Center.

Gail is survived by her devoted husband, Ray Richter; sister, Linda Jill Shipman; son, Buddy Walters and daughter-in-law, Pattie; daughter, Lisa Walters Price and son-in-law, Stephen; son, Brandon Walters and daughter-in-law, Kara; step-children Troy Richter, Natalie Addkison, Craig Richter, and Phillip Richter. She will be missed by her grandchildren, Daniel Walters and wife, Rashon; Blake Walters and wife, April; Jackie Strait and husband, Mason; Josh Walters, Kassidy Walters, and Amanda Price. She is also survived by 6 great-grandchildren and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. Gail was preceded in death by one grandchild, Brant Draper.

Gail Walters will be remembered for her kind heart, unwavering strength, and selfless spirit. Her legacy of love and service will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing her.

A celebration of Gail's life will be held Saturday, April 6th beginning at 2:00 p.m. and a visitation from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Beaty Funeral Home in Winnsboro, where friends and family can gather to honor her memory.
