Galen Darnell Rushing, known to many as Darnell and Poppa, passed away on March 13, 2025, at the age of 54. He was born on April 3, 1970, in Mt. Vernon, Texas, to Harmon Galen Rushing and Hazel Fay Durbin. He grew up in Winnsboro, where he graduated from Winnsboro High School in the Class of 1989.
Darnell built a career as an Equipment Foreman for 3E Resource, dedicating his time and hard work to his profession. A man of faith, he was a member of the Assembly of God church.
In his free time, Darnell enjoyed hunting, fishing, riding his Harley Davidson, and spending cherished moments with his grandbabies. He also found joy in simply piddling around, always keeping himself busy with little projects and hobbies.
On May 21, 1996, he married the love of his life, Dannielle Smith Rushing, and together they built a life filled with love and family. Darnell is survived by his loving wife, Dannielle Rushing; his mother, Hazel Durbin; his sons, Galen Dakota Rushing and wife, Julie, and Kolten Bennett and wife, Jessica; his sister, Sandra Gail Busby; and five treasured grandchildren: Galen Daniel, Gavin Lee, Aspen Lucille, Tyler Cochise, and Karson Bryant.
He was preceded in death by his father, Harmon Galen Rushing, and his brother, Marcus Clint Rushing.
Darnell’s love for motorcycles was well known, and in his honor, his motorcycle-riding friends are invited to ride in the funeral procession. Special parking will be available for their bikes as they pay tribute to their dear friend.
Darnell’s presence, laughter, and love will be deeply missed by all who knew him. His memory will live on in the hearts of his family, friends, and all those whose lives he touched.
